Business Owners Should Learn About SEO, Domain Names and Marketing.

If someone wants to help you for free – no catches, then you should let them!

Business Owners Should Learn About SEO, Domain Names & Marketing!

When you try doing things yourself and things go wrong, you have only yourself to blame. If you think by using a web builder is going to get you traffic, you need to think again. You either have to hire an SEO specialist, buy add-ons like a ranking coach or have to do the SEO & Marketing yourself. But if you do nothing your website will just float in cyberspace.

If a website designer offers you a helping hand, do not be ungrateful. If they offer you free advertising space and free backlinks you have nothing to lose especially if it does not cost you a single penny.

Do not make excuses that you only need one brand domain name and that your website is going to bring you tonnes of traffic if you do not have a blog associated with it.

Blogs are extremely important in generating traffic. You are kidding yourself if you do not master the techniques or hire someone to do it for you.

I know you may be on a budget that is why you should learn to do things properly, do not think that building a website in a web builder is all you need to do, because it’s not, you need to work on the engine for the wheels to move.

https://www.linkedin.com/posts/robmoore1979_most-people-get-this-wrong-when-starting-activity-6974258779836035073-afVD?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop

Example A:

I was recently approached by a lady who had a branded domain name and a website she had built herself on one of these basic web-builder platforms and she asked me if I could help with her content.

I looked at her site and immediately saw red flags. Her website was not responsive to all devices and she was using a branded name that unless someone has heard of you, they are not going to search for you.

If you do not perform SEO your website will be swallowed up in a sea of other sites all fighting to be on the first pages of search engines.

I made an example of my personal brand (iRenata -Renata Entrepreneur). Although I am well known in certain circles (LinkedIn), I am by far not famous, so if people have never heard of me they are not going to search for me, hence that is why I have built an SEO Link Wheel with Keyword Domain Names Websites and Social Media Pages.

Sample SEO Link Wheel
Example SEO Link Wheel!

So I took the liberty of doing an SEO Audit Report which I sent to her and found she had zero visitors to her site. Her website was not indexed and ranked.

I gave her my recommendations and showed her how having a secondary keyword domain name will help her. By coincidence, I had two matching keyword domain names on my books. She then asked me how much it would cost and after an exchange of emails, she came back to me and said she would attempt to do the SEO and try and fix her site herself. To this date she has done nothing other than adding a cookie banner, which again she did not think she need to have, I soon put her straight.

I then responded to her and said I would reserve the domains for her free of charge for the first 12 months and give her free backlinks to her business and amazingly she has gone off the radar. I was essentially going to give her a piggyback for free.

Example B:

Another example of a business not valuing a domain name that they owned and dropped, inclusive of a website that was on the first page of search engines and had secured global positioning and brand authority in favor of their Facebook page so to save money. The problem is this particular business had just won an award and was buzzing, but once the dust settles and business starts to dwindle they will be asked by their customers why they do not have a website and when they try to get their domains back they will have to pay a hefty fee to get them.

Doing It Yourself To Save Money.

All I can save if you are a business and you try to build websites yourself learn about SEO, keyword domain names, and brand domain names because if you think you can do it yourself to save money do not be surprised your website will not see the light of day and most certainly will not be on the first pages of search engines.

Do not think that cutting corners is going to save you money because I can tell you for starters you will lose traffic which could potentially convert into leads if you do not do things correctly.

If someone is trying to help you free of charge do try to take their advice (do not look a gift horse in the mouth). I tried helping Client B by telling him to put his website on his market stall banner but did he listen, did he hell? I told him he was losing business through passing trade and told him his particular niche people not going to be searching for him when they can literally go to any supermarket and buy something similar. https://ukdomainbrokers.ukwebsitedesigners.co.uk/confectionery-wales-co-uk-domain-name-for-sale/

If you think that you can do it yourself why are you not already on the first pages of search engines, or why are you not generating enough traffic”?

If you think a Facebook Page is all you need then this is only one source of traffic.

Never rely on one source of traffic.

I may go on Facebook once every couple of days, maybe even once a week. I do not have enough hours in the day to spend my time on Social Media unless I am advertising and marketing. I certainly do not use Facebook for personal entertainment so my point is there are many people like me who either do not have Facebook accounts or do not spend time hanging out. I see this too many times on LinkedIn where it may say the user has not posted lately. People especially entrepreneurs are very busy and may not have the time to surf social media.

By rights the (Client B) that gave me no notice to terminate even though he had a contract, I should have charged him but I would have then run the risk of him huffing and puffing and then talking sh#t about me.

I am patient one day he will need his domain names and I gave him plenty of opportunities to transfer them to him (I asked him to give me the name of his registrar) and he declined so he cannot come back to me at a later date because they will be in use when I forward them to an affiliate page that hopefully will convert into sales for me in the same niche. His loss my gain.

Do not try to be a smart arse as the latter (Client B) with dropping his domain names including his branded name, because one day he may want the domains and I will get my money back from what I have lost for the late cancellation.

If you have not got a clue about website design, SEO, domain names, and marketing leave it to the experts and do not do it yourself.

Do not expect a web designer to fix your botch job. If you want someone to fix the foundations of your house, any reputable builder or architect would recommend demolition first before building on weak foundations before doing a proper job of rebuilding. The same applies to a website. Imagine building a high-rise building on foundations that could not withstand earthquakes, it just would not happen. The same applies to websites.

Example C.

Finally do not be a tire kicker, consider this, how would you feel if someone wasted your time?

You could have been busy generating leads rather than messing around with someone who has no intention to buy from you.

This actually happened to me a few months ago someone contacted me over a domain name www.superyachtevents.co.uk I gave her the price and she seemed to be happy, but she said something that made me think she was simply wasting my time and that she was off for a few weeks on business and would come back to me on her return.

If she wanted the domain badly enough she would not have waited for a few weeks to acquire it considering we were in full flow communication, she is a Limited company because I checked her out on Companies House, so she could have afforded it if she needed it badly enough. All I was asking was £500, I have since listed back up on Godday and increased the price.

I did wait for her to come back to me and she didn’t, even though I had taken the domain off the market for many weeks where potentially I could have lost a sale. I then decided to message her one last time and asked her to let me know either way, which she did by saying she no longer needed the domain.

Time waster, what was the point of the outreach? She had her chance to acquire it and then bailed out. Why agree on a price and then make a BS excuse not to buy?

The thing is when I sell domain names I may include hosting, design, and development, SEO, Marketing, and Advertising at my discretion. It all depends on who the company is and what its reasons for buying the domains are.

The moral of the story, learn about SEO and Domain Names. If you want more traffic then you need to have a blog and regular content. The more times your articles are published the higher up the ladder you will climb.

Either way, I try to mentor my clients if they simply want a domain name or if they want website design and development or lead generation. You defiantly get your money’s worth with me and I even give you a free ebook I have written to give you a head start.

www.MarketingCardiff.com

www.MARKETINGCARDIFF.com

I am pleased to announce that I have acquired www.marketingcardiff.com by a fluke.

It was not available last year as I am always looking for ways to generate more traffic, so I was surprised to see it on the IONOS marketplace and had to grab it.

SEO Link Wheel.

I am happy I have the dot com as I will have no use for any other domain extension, just in case anyone approached me regarding the .co.uk just saying… Furthermore, if someone then decides to develop the co.uk version there may be a reason to start a UDRP.

Website Development.

It is what came first the chicken or the egg scenario. I developed a website on a dot com (king of domains) long before any other counterpart.

Branding.

This domain will serve as another cog to my ever-expanding SEO link wheel. This domain is a keeper as it has played on my mind whenever I say ‘Cymru’ not everyone I speak to knows what the word means. It is the Welsh Word for Wales and as well as people not knowing how to pronounce it let alone spell it, may also find difficulty remembering it. Hence that is why I am excited to add an addition to my lead generation marketing strategies.

Obviously, the site is not fully developed as I only acquired it today but over the next few weeks, time permitting, I will build this site to accompany my default sites.

I have also kept my ‘Cymru Marketing’ Logo Initials where the (CM) stands for Cymru Marketing, whereas now the initials are reversed to Marketing Cardiff (MC). However had I re-designed the initials the M letter does not sit right on the letter C, hence I have left the lettering the same. As long as I get the traffic what’s a couple of letters in a logo. If anything it makes the logo even more unique and talked about after all ‘Cymru Marketing’ is here to stay and it will always be one of my default websites, with ‘Marketing Cardiff’ as an add-on.

The way I see it the logo is recognizable it has been around for a few years and people who recognize and relate to an image can memorize images symbols and logos far quicker than remembering words. People will see the logo and see it as a trustworthy source, so why confuse people with more than one logo, at the end of the day it is a personal preference and my decision. If anything the logo says that ‘Cymru Marketing Brand ‘ is behind ‘Marketing Cardiff’.

One has to remember that exact match searchable keywords and phrases domain names will rank your website far quicker and will secure global positioning providing you do your SEO correctly.

Having brandable made-up words, acronyms or personal brand names needs extensive Advertising and PR, whilst having searchable words people actively search for will save you money in the long run. Choose your domain names carefully and if you need some help with your SEO link wheel we will be happy to give you some free advice and do a free SEO audit report of your website.

As an example I have my own personal brand domain name www.renataentrepreneur.com but if people do not know who you are and have never heard of you before they are not going to be searching for you. Fortunately for me, I have been around for donkeys’ years so I am well known in certain circles.

Even if you are ranked for keywords that you have assigned in your meta description people are less likely to view your site as opposed to the and exact match searchable keyword or phrase domain name. You would have to be well known or a household name which can take a long time to achieve before people started to search for you.

Valuation.

The domain name www.marketingcardiff.com on estibot.com is according to the bot worth less than $100 but on Godaddy Appraisal Tool it is worth $904

To be honest, I rarely use these bots and whenever I am appraising a domain name. I do my calculations based on Google Keyword Planner and how many searches per month and the cost of the PPC bids would be. I then can advise that having a certain domain name would save the investor in advertising costs.

However, if the domain name has equity such as a product, service, website, and assets then you are talking about a different ball game, and even though I have no intention to sell this domain name my equity which these bots do not know about will increase the value.

LUXURY MAKEUP

Luxury Makeup www.luxurymakeup.co.uk Marketing Banner

Luxury Makeup (www.luxurymakeup.co.uk)

This Domain Name www.luxurymakeup.co.uk could be yours if you are targeting consumers to buy your makeup brand. Think of it this way if you have an unusual brand name that has only recently started out and only a handful of people know about it, how do you get the rest of the world to know you exist? Imagine having an exact match searchable keyword phrase that people actively search for.

Imagine being a well-known brand and you want to control the whole of the UK Market, imagine what this domain name could do for your business, knowing that once you own this domain name your competitors will be blown out of the water and you will secure your positioning in the UK.

SEO takes many months of hard work to get your brand name ranked and if you are using a static site eg (website) where you do not make changes very often, why would search engines think your website is worth moving up the ladder?

Any brandable name as well as extensive SEO needs to spend a lot of money on Advertising, so to add another cog to an SEO link wheel one needs to have a blog and backlinks. If you optimize your posts and write articles consistently sharing them on all social media platforms, pages, and groups eventually you will boost your ranking with quality backlinks to your site.

Another key factor is having an exact match searchable domain name that you replicate the keywords in your content and meta-tags. This will get your site on page one of Google in no time without spending lots of money on advertising.

When setting up a Shopify website for example you need to spend a lot of time doing SEO. This is not an overnight magic pill you have to work hard and spend time and money and you need to have a marketing budget unless you can try to do it yourself. Shopify gives you initially a sub-domain of their website and you then need to integrate a domain name of your choosing and change DNS records so that your domain points to that subdomain. They also use their own tracking this is not as accurate as Google Analytics.

If you want to get on the first page of Google you need to make Google your friend and use their tools in order to be ranked.

The domain name www.luxurymakeup.co.uk is listed on Godaddy.

How To Increase Business & Followers.

I noticed today a post on LinkedIn from someone that was connected with me but was not an internet marketer per-se, stating “How to increase followers from 30K to 225K followers” in five minutes per day by commenting #yes

The first thing that came to mind is he has no authority to advise considering he is and what I saw was a clever click bait hack and nothing more. This is a disappointment when people are genuinely looking for answers and come across someone just looking out for him/herself, simply having people click the post for the post to go no where.

Therefore I have taken upon myself to write this post to help individuals increase followers/business. This method can be applied to all social media platforms:

1: Optimize Your Profile Pages, optimise your cover photo and also your profile picture. Make your profile picture look professionally done. Remember to be aware of your background in the photo. A picture says a thousand words. Try to get a professional head shot done at a local photographic studio (when they are open again) or get a friend to take a photo without any distractions in the backdrop.

2: Start with connecting with people, most social media platforms say only connect with the people you know, but what if you have a genuine enquiry, the best thing is to find their email addresses to write to them first before sending them a connection request, especially of you do not know them.

3: Write articles on your pages and link back to articles you have written on your blogs and share these articles with your connections.

4: Make your post intriguing only give a little away and entice the reader to click you post for more information.

5. Share photos on your social media platform pages, instagram is good for this or do infographics and add titles to your posts.

6: Be creative and publish videos, add captivating content that people will be willing to watch. Add humour, funny videos attract peoples attention.

7: Go Live. Livestreaming is not for everyone but if you are happy broadcasting an event or milestone as long as it has good content you will get people watching.

8: Advertise your brochures and share your pdf’s on your business pages.

9: Use hashtags when closing your post text.

10: Don’t forget to tag your connections and companies that may find your post useful.

11: Give your followers valuable advice. Everyone is a guru these days and some can be better at it than others but you only have one chance of being an expert in your niche and the more followers you have the more well known you will become.

12: RSS feeds are a good way of finding trending posts, create “breaking news” posts that perhaps people outside your region may not have heard of. Do not copy posts word for word as that is called plagiarism and you will be penalised by search engines. For me I always use one of my blogs to write articles which I then share with my connections and although I may read something I will scramble it into my own words, even giving my own perspective.

13: Be consistant and active everyday on all your social media platforms. I am perhaps the world worst as I only seem to hang out on LinkedIn because most of my work is B2B but recently I have been asked to do B2C hence I need to alter my mind set and concentrate on Facebook pages and groups more.

14: Create viral posts this could be something like a give away or a competition with a deadline.

15: Join groups on your social media platforms.

16: Create your own groups for your different niches.

17: Create your own business pages on all your social media platforms, keep your professional and personal pages seperate.

18: If you have an event coming up or thinking of creating one, social media is a good place to advertise and market yourself.

19: Once you have a following on your social media platforms do reach out and collaborate with your connections.

20: Set the buttons on your profiles to a “Follow” button.

21: Create a call to action in every post.

22: Promote your social media profiles everywhere, including your website, blogs and email signatures.

23: Cross promote your profile on your other social media channels. For me I have on default business card website that I point people to, this saves time typing out each social media platform I am connected to.

24: Pay per click advertising campaigns are not only good with Google & Bing but they are also is a good way of connecting with people through your social media platforms. Facebook & Instagram is a place where you can connect B2C, this is good if you are targeting a specific category or people. You can fine tune your specifications to the location, age, gender and interests.

25: Try to update your profile page frequently, a stagnant page is boring and will show your audience that you are frequesnt at updating. If you have new services, always keep them updated.

26: Always reply to comments, no matter how trivial, ignoring a comment makes the person who wrote it worthless. Obviously if you have hundreds of thousand of comments pick out the ones that stand out and thank everyone in a generic comment.

27: When people share your posts and pages, thank them.

28: Get your biggest fans to endorse you, this applies to LinkedIn more so than any other social media channel and visa versa, you will be amazed how may people who you endorse will endorse you back. The same goes with review ask your customers to write a review about your brand.

29: If you have businesses that wish you to promote them, do offer to write recommendations, this gives you exposure aswell as exposure for your client, but if the businesses wish more exposure you could offer other marketing strategies which you could potentially charge for the service. I do this free of charge by adding banner ads to all my social media pages and groups I am connected on. This is short lived advertising but for a permanent fixture on my blogs I charge a monthy/yearly fee.

30: Exact match searchable keyword and phrases are so important not only in your domain name but on your website, meta tags and social media pages. When choosing a Facebook page for example use words that people would use to search for your product or service rather than your unknown brand name. Your brand name will become popular over time and it will not be an overnight success unless you spend a lot of money on advertising, I just do not mean Google Ads I mean in publications, newspapers, radio and TV.

31: Make your social media profile searchable, make them public.

32: When commenting on other peoples posts, do not get personal and do not get into trolling arguments if someone does not see the value of your comment. Be professional and do not sell things on peoples posts. You could add a backlink to your company as a signature or hashtag but thats it, don’ be the pushy sales person.

33: Give incententives to get people to share your posts. This could be a free e-book or a discount voucher.

35: Become an influencer.

36. Become a public speaker.

37: Create educational webinars, podcasts, tutorials, use youtube and share your content on all social media platforms.

38. Create a SEO link wheel, of your websites, blogs and social media platforms.

39. Start a blog and add RSS feeds so that in engages people’s interests.

40. Have a subscribe widget or pop up so that you can capture peoples emails and then send them updates or newsletters. Do not install the popup until a person is about to exit your site and not before. I believe it is off putting to have a subscribe popup the moment you attempt to access a site. You need to earn my trust and loyalty before I give my email away.

41. Integrate a chat widget into your websites and blogs so that when visitors visit your sites you can engage with them.

42: Guest blog on other notable websites.

43: Become a podcast interviewer. Invite people to join you in a discussion.

44. Write a book about you and your niche and publish your services and products.

45. Leave business cards on noticeboards in supermarkets, cafes (when they open again).

46. Make flyers and post them through peoples doors.

47. Consider giving out freebies, such as buy one get one free.

48. Start a competition.

49. Consider getting people to market you using affiliate links. https://rakutenadvertising.com/en-uk/

50. Advertise in Magazines and in Newspapers.

51. Offer to do something for free, this could be free web hosting in my case or free marketing or promotion.

52. Wear promotional clothing.

53. Give away promotional merchandise.

54. Word of mouth advertising get all your family and friends to promote you and get their family and friends and before you know it you have a network of connections.

55. Do outbound marketing, like picking up the phone and calling or writing snail mail letters.

56. Enlist the help of other advocates in your industry, find a mentor.

57. As your employees to engage in your social media pages, make them contributors.

58. Post your articles at ceratin times of the day. I find that during working hours people are busy getting on with business. So you have to pick times that appeal to your network browsing times, otherwise you posts may not get a look in. However according to LinkedIn’s their busiest hours are in the morning and midday from Monday to Friday. This will ensure your post to get maximum reach.

59. Add multiple admins to you pages and ask your colleagues to help you.

60. Join all the social media platforms and follow companies and people of interest.

Hyphen Domain Names

Hypen Domain Names

Hyphen Domain Names.

Hyphen Domain Names and why you should not use them.

I was approached last week to tender for a bank and upon closer inspection I found that they are using a hyphen domain name. This got me thinking outside the box so to speak and the keywords they were using within their domain name were hyphenated. I found that they were pointing what would be their MAIN non hyphen domain name to their hyphen domain name, not the other way round. Not only that they were not using the keywords that a consumer would search for, although there are 654,000,000 results for their keywords business bank, the first word in their domain name would not be something that people neccessarily would search for. Google does not use exact-match searchable phrases but will list a broad match of search results based on the searchable keywords.

I then thought how can I help this bank with their marketing when they are looking for a marketing agency that would be a subcontractor? I for one cannot be a subcontractor, cannot work out of hours or weekends, and can only commit to a few hours each month. I work on my own terms.

So I decided to register a domain name any bank would want in the UK but rather than just put the domain name up for sale I will be doing extensive SEO. I have already launched the domain even though the website is under construction and will eventually have a directory of all the banks in the UK.

Once I get the domain on the first page of Google I will contact the bank in question, although any bank will be biting my arm off to get the domain, especially when it will be generating traffic. I will not announce the domain name until it is 100% developed.

💲💲💲

So needless to say I come across another domain name that had a marketing campaign sent to my inbox today and I was very surprised that they too were using a hyphen domain name.

Again I did some investigating and found that the non hyphen domain name was actually for sale, which means that the powers that be have no intention of buying domain names that are being brokered and are up for sale as opposed to hand-registering what is available.

Good luck to them is all I can say and even though I am not brokering www.neomproperty.com and as opposed to what Neom City have www.neom-property.com gives me a better understanding of their marketing strategy.

As for the wordNeom,” it is trademarked therefore no one should be able to use the word other than the London Organic Beauty Company. Hence in my opinion and considering the London Organic Company came first www.neom.com by rights should belong to the beauty company, just saying…. The same goes for booking(s).com trademarked their name so no one can use the word booking (s) in a domain name.

PROS & CONS.

PROS:

Advantages of using hyphens

Domain names comprised of generic terms are more likely to be available; particularly when seeking to the nonavailable TLD.

CONS:

Disadvantages of hyphenated domain names

People are less likely to remember a hyphen and it adds an extra character to the domain name.

More difficult to market nonflowing words and long-winded especially when advertising on radio or through word of mouth.

Is not as valuable as a flowing two or three-word domain name and won’t have as good a resale value.

If your domain name is two words (like www.renataentrepreneur.com), you may want to separate the words with a hyphen for readability: www.renata-entrepreneur.com. But one has to consider that hyphens strongly correlate with spammy behavior and decrease domain name readability and memorability. People tend to ignore or avoid clicking links that go to these types of domain names for fear of landing on a nonauthentic scam website or a virus.

https://news.gandi.net/en/2020/08/should-i-put-a-dash-in-my-domain-name/

What about using underscores instead of hyphens?

Ultimately one should perform a radio test for memorability. A radio test is a way of finding out if the domain names are easily remembered publically e.g. on the phone, in meetings, in presentations, at a bar, in a taxi, or in a Zoom call. Verbal communication enables us to remember words easily, using hyphens can cause confusion and may be deemed as untrustworthy. Symbols and underscores can’t be used in domains anyway as the characters are not permitted, however, numbers can.

It may an idea for a business to secure the hyphen domain name but not use it for SEO or marketing purposes more so to stop cyber criminals from cloning sites.

For your information, I have secured the hyphen for my example earlier www.renataentrepreneur.com plus the .co.uk so that no one gets the better of me.

Making Waves – Public Relations.

Making Waves – Public Relations.

I was told today by a company that shall remain nameless as well as their industry that I should not be making waves, meaning i should not be writing news articles about a partiular topic.

My answer to that is, this is my job, I announce to the world what is on my mind, fact check everything and make companies more aware the latest news, reviews and regulations.

If a company goes to me and says do not make waves and argues with me that I should not be writing certain articles even though it does not directly involve them, means they either are afraid of something, have something to hide or do not like being told they are wrong.

The name of the game of business you have to listen and you have to learn.

I make it my job to know the facts and the law and hope that the information I write is useful.

Should a person not take my advice, that is there problem not mine.

When a company tells me I cannot do my job or question my motives I have to ask why?, there is also freedom of speech and anyone can write anything as long as it is not fake news.

Making waves allows people to notice what you have to say, as long as it is for the right reasons and done properly, you should not be stirring up a hornets nest if you do not want to get stung, as there is an element it can backfire. But providing you have all the evidence to back up your claim there is no reason to let your ideas, thoughts and comments be not known.

Are you a Spineless Jellyfish.

If you are a Spineless Jellyfish a person who is hard working, works by the book, but is underappreciated because they don’t speak up, then they will never get noticed.

Are you a Tuna.

However a Tuna Fish in the ocean of businesses may have the ability to stand up for themselves, may have a good network of friends and colleagues but won’t stand out from the school of fish as much as you would desire. In this case they need to brush up your public relations skills.

Are you a Shark.

Finally are you are a shark – like me and are one fearless fish in the sea! You have a presence that is well known however you want to to make a ripple in the waters, not create a crushing tidal wave.

So for the company that told me not to make waves they have missed the boat because i was going to give them a free marketing boost, especially seeing I found they have been in business for many years and are still not on the first page of Google organically. The other things is they have a hyphenated domain name, which is a no no in the world of SEO and have no cookie banner.

Always remember you do not who you are dealing with and where people make assumptions, this is wrong as the next nerdy person you speak to could be a Fortune 100 CEO of a Big Tech Company.

Final Thoughts.

I try to help people as much as I can, but if they do not want to be helped then its up to them.

The tradesperson that I dealt with today and was representing the company basically ruined any chances the company could have had for free marketing, because of his dictatorship, aswell as not knowing exactly my job role.

Never assume anything and do take into account when you speak with someone you may not always know who you are talking to.

Always take an opportunity when it comes knocking on your door because like the company today they missed the boat even though I was not selling them anything, just giving them free advice, I was going to suggest helping them, but the dialogue did not happen and never will.

Also never judge a book by its cover!

Persuasive Marketing Strategies Explained

Persuasive Marketing Strategies Explained.

Persuasive Marketing Strategies Explained.

Ever heard the saying “he could sell snow to the Eskimos“, this one happens to be my favorite but there are also others see below.

The meaning is the description of someone who is a clever and persuasive salesperson, such that they could sell something to people who have no need or use for it. As in the case of ‘Belle Delphine’ ‘GameGirl Bath Water’ which is trending right now and how she made $10M selling bath water to her followers. No, I am not going to promote her water 🤣.

(The phrase ‘selling ice to the Eskimo’s alludes to the various indigenous peoples of the traditionally cold, snowy northern circumpolar regions of the globe, who would have no shortage of and or no need to buy) snow or ice. However even Eskimos would not say no to Gelato or Sorbets for dessert, just a thought I wonder 🤔.

Other terms uses for sales techniques are:

  1. Sell ice to the Eskimos
  2. Sell a cape to Superman.
  3. Sell hay to a farmer.
  4. Sell wood to a forest.
  5. Sell religion to the Pope.
  6. Sell underwear to a nudist.
  7. Sell rope to a free climber.
  8. Sell a two-wheeled bike to a unicyclist.
  9. Sell crutches to an Olympic sprinter.
  10. Sell a cage to a lion.

“My take on this is that a web designer contacts a web designer to see if they need help building a website or an internet marketer contacts an internet marketer to see if they need any help with internet marketing”.

PERSUASIVE MARKETING

PERSUASIVE MARKETING

Persuasion marketing is a marketing strategy that manipulates the human mind into thinking they desire the ideology of the product or service that is being marketed. It is the psychology of the power of persuasion that alters our emotions. When advertising companies use this strategy to make the product or service desirable going as far as to seduce the audience into thinking they need it.

‘Belle Delphone’ used her body as a tool to persuade her audience that the water she bathed in was a sexual extension of herself.

Many have criticized that at $22 dollar a bottle, no one in their right mind should have bought it. But people have fetishes and the porn industry is big business, She gained her audience by setting up an ‘only fans’ account where you pay a paid subscription to join and the models show parts of their bodies in exchange for money.

FINAL THOUGHTS!

I remember years ago in Glastonbury Somerset in the UK, Mud being sold on eBay as well as Britney Spears’s hair when she had a meltdown and shaved all her hair off. Glastonbury for everyone that does not know is a town in southwest England. It’s known for its ancient and medieval sites, many rich in myth. Believed to be King Arthur’s burial place.

Providing there is a market you can sell pretty much anything to anyone nowadays if you advertise your product or service well, regardless if it is by traditional methods or digital.

Grow your followers and you will have a platform to sell.

Repairing a Bad Reputation

Repairing a Bad Reputation.

Your Reputation is the key to your success. If your reputation is tarnished how do you make it squeaky clean again?

Warren Buffett’s famous quote on reputation goes like this: “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.

Our reputation can be damaged via our personal lives through melicious rumours, this can start in school onto higher education, it could be at work because of competive co-workers who are jealous of your performance or it could be unhappy customers writing bad things about your Brand. In some case it can even be political. Whatever the circumstances we have the power to create our own destinies and by confronting the issue head on we are one step closer to regaining our good image back.

Reputation may be falsely advertised with personal attacks, customer complaints and blatant falsehoods but what if what was said was true how do you recover from that? How do you restore your brands reputation?

If you find untrue content published, you can take legal action against the perpetrators. However if the content is damaging and true there is little you can do to remove the content other than to bombard the internet with lots of good news.

Slander can cause irrevocable damage against companies and individuals. Slander is when content is published to be untrue and or misleading causing defamation of character spoken oral or written communication with the intent and unjustly harm the reputation and usually constitutes a tort or crime.  In the late 19th century, the expression “yellow journalism” was used and described by New York Press editor Erwin Wardman, how newspaper moguls, specifically Joseph Pulitzer II and William Randolph Hearst, would use misleading sensationalized news article to improve circulation. Randolph Hearst was the subject material that inspired Orson Welles to make the film Citizen Kane, based on the influence and corruption he acquired in the 1920s and 1930s.

A damaged reputation may be difficult to recover from or repair. That is why protecting you brand is so important, Getting your good name back is not always easy, but it can be done with patience, determination, and perseverance.

If the truth is out there is little you can do to take it down, but you can bombard the internet with good and positive news. If you continue filling the internet with good things your bad reputation will be old news in no time at all. Time is a healer as they say.

A bad reputation is potentially temporary providing you can continue to have positive things written about up consistently.

Never forget what damage has been done but always remember people care less over time. After all the world does not stay in the same place all the time, people have other things to talk about and providing you are meticulous with positive news eventually your bad reputation will be history.

Think of this this way your bad reputation is only what happened today or yesterday, but you can make a difference by not carrying on into the future. Your bad reputation can continue manifesting if you do nothing, but with the right resources you can make it a thing of the past. Research shows that, contrary to popular belief, when compared to other means of social evaluation, reputation matters measurably less than other factors.

Remember, focus on the things you can control, not the things you can’t. What content has been published cannot be unpublished but the more content you have written that is positive will eventually outweigh anything bad.

Consider addressing the world about the bad content and make you views known. If there is no proof of the statements that have been published and is pure speculation directed at you consider a way that can help you rectify any misunderstandings. Perhaps there are other entities that may not be directly linked to you that have disgraced your honour, yet people have come to a conclusion it is your own wrong doings that have caught media attention and you need to set the records straight. Discuss with people openly about what has happened and regain peoples trust.

The secret is to change how others think about you. Sometimes you just need to control the perceptions of others. People need to be programmed to see things in a different light. Reinventing yourself and showing people a new you and by consistently showing a different perspective on what would have been once thought as bad will encourage people to talk about you in a positive manner.

Whether your reputation is true or false try to denounce accusations as lies as quickly as possible. The longer you leave it the more chances of you being labelled and associated to this atrocity. Be assertive not aggressive, and make sure you spread the word that you have tried to defend yourself. If you do nothing the finger will be pointed your way. Ask other people to help set the story straight. The longer this bad reputation exists, the harder it may become to fix. Clarify any misunderstandings. Be outspoken when challenging lies.

A good way to improve your reputation and regain trust is to do show you are a good person and go out of your way to be kind and do good deeds.

However, doing too much too quickly can backfire and you must be steady with your pace and be consistent. Its no-good holding and event you need to hold several. There is no quick fix. You cannot come across as desperate a people will see through you, which will damage your reputation even further.

1). If the bad reputation revolves around you alone do nice things for your family, friends and co-workers or your local community. A good way to do good deeds is to do some volunteering work, this is especially helpful in your local communities with elderly or disabled people.

2). If the bad reputation revolves round your business do good deeds for your employees and your customers.

3). If the reputation revolves around something bigger (An Entity) then there are steps you can take to try to resolve the problem and I have a consultation white paper of suggestions for anyone wishing to contact me.

The key to getting rid of your bad reputation is to impress others. Go above and beyond your call of duty. Do impressive things and in turn you can improve how people see you. Gaining peoples trust and respect which is earned can go a long way towards improving your reputation.

Evaluate your social circles, change your life and your beliefs. If you do bad, only bad things will come your way, do good things on the other hand and only good things will come your way.

If the problem is at work and you are caught in a toxic environment this can lead to depression and a poor work performance. You need to tackle the problem head on and if you cannot resolve the problem alone speak with your superiors or HR. A work environment which encourages an unhealthy work-life balance can make it seem that a hardworking, dedicated person make look they are lazy and not performing well, but there could be underlining problem that could cause others to perceive a person differently. Evaluate your workplace if you think you will never fit in because of the perceptions people have about you and after offering an olive branch to make things right, things have not changed consider changing career paths. You cannot make yourself ill by simply being in the wrong job with the wrong people.

When trying to get rid of a bad reputation which is a stigma attached to you try to change yourself. Try to see yourself through the eyes of others, if you do not like what you see, consider changing your mindset. We need to retrain our brains to think differently and it easier said than done as we are creatures of habit. However, making gradual changes in our mannerism and in our thought process and our behaviour eventually people will start to notice.

If you bad reputation is surrounded by who you are and what powers you have, and people are immediately fearful of you try to change your persona to be a loving and kind individual.

Seek professional help, from specialist advisors and consultants. Life coaches or a spiritual guides also can help you transition into a different person. Never be false and always be true to yourself. By starting with yourself and believing in yourself only you can make those changes without being superficial. This will carve the steppingstone to a brighter future.

Once you have mastered your own new strength you need to make people believe in you. Rebranding yourself does not necessarily mean renaming yourself it just means you can change the social stigma to be a more positive one.

By monitoring your reputation online you will help eliminate any false truths and will prevent prolonged damage to your integrity.

The quickest way to see what has been written about you or your brand is to go online and search the search engines results pages (SERP). Monitor your Google Analytics and look out for unusual performance anomalies in your site traffic.

Manage Google Alerts for all your titles using brand names, product tags, popular misspellings, competitors, senior team leaders and key industry terms and popular search phrases.

Evaluate if whilst trying to defend yourself it will cause more harm than good specifically if the damaging content published can be used to gain even more traffic. Consider if the site is a blog where subscribers can leave comments. Do not fuel the fire.

It is common knowledge that there are three laws for reputation management which are authority, authority and authority. The more popular you are, the easier it is to gain authority of your brand be in personal or commercial. A sure-fire way to gain authority is by building a social media reputation with a strong following. The followers must be authentic legitimate people that have subscribed to your social media pages or on blog posts.

You can also build your authority by networking at business intro events or public speaking. You could even be a sponsor, or you could join charitable organizations. Whatever strategy you use if the media is filled with good deeds you are doing only good things will come out of it and your bad reputation will be a thing of the past.

Remember if you are honest with people, people are forgiving and can learn to trust you again. Be the bigger person and own up to your wrong doings, apologise if you can and address the elephant in the room. However not everything is black and white and not everything that has been written about you can be swept under the carpet hence you have to show people you are not as bad as everyone is making you out to be.

Have you noticed at political rallies how politicians pick up babies to show the world they have empathy and can relate to normal folk? Politicians for example have both good and bad followers so see how they deal with the public and follow suit.

When dealing with your brand reputation try to control to conversation using social media platforms to clarify any misunderstandings, reduce complaints and build a fan base at the same time. Monitor not just the public but more closer to home your employees complaint platform such as www.glassdoor.co.uk there could be other sites in your region, do your research and find out what people are saying about you and your brand. Limit the possibilities of people buying up domain names with your brand name and writing controversial things about you. Own all the variations of your website URL, including negative versions (avoidthisbrand.com).

Be quick to apologize to customer complaints. Remember a dissatisfied customer will tell between 9-15 people and 13% of very dissatisfied customers will tell more than 20 people. Bad reviews spread like wildfire. However happy customers who have had their issue resolved will tell about 4-6 people about their experience.

Be authentic and never make up excuses or try and blame the problem on someone else. Always be transparent when handling customer complaints and if you have had bad press do not shy away and hope the problem will go away on its own it wont unless you do a press conference and address the issues.

Gain positive feedback from influencers who can help boost your personal image.

Most importantly, reward loyal customers, influencers and internet marketers. Make your clients and supporters feel appreciated by giving them exclusive content, products or experiences.

Finally, be patient, building a good reputation doesn’t happen overnight whereas rebuilding a damaged one is going to take even longer.

Be in control of what is written on the internet whereas it may take millions of dollars and years to build a a good reputation, it only takes a few minutes to create a social media account and potentially ruin a company’s brand and reputation.
